Seeds of Change won't put your child on the bench...
The Big IdeaThe Seeds Of Change Academy is based on the Home School model and we operate a year-round schedule, which we find to be more suited to the needs of teens on the autistic spectrum.
The School follows 9 weeks of schooling and 3 weeks out of school for up to 14 students. The school is closed during Federal Holidays, and currently does not have any 'teacher work days' scheduled. Classes are led by both teachers and TA's, with the expectation that parents of students will volunteer 1 day per week, to be scheduled with the TAs and Administration. The school offers Before and After School care for an extra fee; inquiries on cost/availability can be made through the 'contact us' link.
The ProgramFamily Garden
An integral part of the program will include the creation and nurturing of the "Family Garden", a healthy organic seasonal gardens. We will plan and cultivate vegetables and flora, and will incorporate the produce into our program to promote healthy living and eating. The Family Garden will help teach dexterity and understanding, along with practical skills and attention., as well as self-sufficiency, and is available for the use of the school families to harvest, as part of the ongoing program. Community Outreach One day a month, from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m., the students do a community outreach/volunteering program, selected by the individual student. This can include visiting a nursing home, helping the homeless by making and distributing blankets, working in a food kitchen, etc. We must sow the seed not only to learn, but to care for yourself and others. Learning Adventures We are also working to coordinate regular "field trips" to local places of interest, including historical sites, environmental and nature preserves, farms, and more, depending upon interest and availability of all the students and families. |
The Facility and FacultyThe home school philosophy is the basis of our school - so we operate from our home. This is a wood-floored, single-level home with an open floor plan and 2 full bathrooms.
The house has central AC and a grassy 1-acre level yard for outdoor activities in a quiet neighborhood. We have wheelchair ramp access on the front and rear doors and a double garage for activities such as arts and crafts, building projects. Current faculty includes: Teaching Assistants (TAs)
We currently have several potential TAs however we are still opening our possibilities to more staffing. if you know of someone interested in being a TA, or an internship, please let us know too! Continued LearningAdvanced Learning
We are continuing to expand our relationships and partnerships to include ongoing educational and vocational opportunities for our students and children. We are reaching out currently to Wake Tech to begin discussions about varying levels of engagement. We welcome any suggestions or opportunities and contacts to begin discussions. |
